Trending this winter: 2024

ARE YOU

a classic-, trendy dresser, or do you have your own individual style? It is always good to know what is out there in the shops for a few reasons.

I like the fact that whenever a colour is trending, there is a wide variety of styles in that colour to choose from. When it is your favorite colour, stock up on the classic items like t-shirts or sweaters.

(The dresses-trend this past summer for example, had me have a field day choosing a few new ones of this favorite item in my wardrobe.)

Oversized scarves, wrap scarves as well as hooded scarves are trending this winter. I have spotted some of the trends in the shops already and saw a beautiful cream-coloured hooded wrap-scarf at Queenspark.

Cropped jackets and short cardigans, especially flattering for petites, are everywhere in a variety of colours. Now is the time to go shopping if you feel swamped in longer styles or you need something colourful to cheer you up.

The PEPLUM is back! Just bear in mind that this is a trend that will look out of style after two seasons or less. However, if it looks good on you, rock it!

Chunky, oversized knitwear is in vogue and now is the time to pull out those thick knitting needles, chunky wool and knit your own. There will be lots of patterns available in magazines and on social media. If knitting is not your thing, there is enough to choose from in the shops.

Loungewear sets are not going anywhere. These comfortable clothes are still available everywhere. There is a handful of lucky ladies I know of who acquired some bespoke loungewear sets from Ingrid Jones’ Obsession Store.

The sheer clothing trend is still clinging on for dear life and was seen on red carpets everywhere, but it is getting “so last season”.

Metallics and velvet are all the rage and if you love either or both these fabrics, now is the time to go find that one coveted piece.

Pleated skirts are on the way out, but long satin skirts, cut on the bias, are in. I predict that this trend too, will not be long lasting. Bias cut works better in a substanstial, not flimsy, fabric.

Red, never out of style, is trending big time for winter. Now is the season to buy that red coat, jacket, cardigan or dress. You should be spoilt for choice.

Legwarmers, a la ballet dancer, are making a comeback, haibo! How successful the trend will be, I have no idea. I have not seen any in our shops yet, but I have not been on the look-out for it.

Any trend tickled your fancy?

Enjoy a cosy winter 2024.

Till we chat again.
