Liewer dood as uit die mode?

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

WHAT IS TRENDING FOR AUTUMN AND WINTER 2022?

“In difficult times, fashion is always outrageous.” according to designer Elsa Schiaparelli. We are definitely experiencing difficult times and the emerging fashions certainly are outrageous and over the top.

  1. Bold patterns lead the trend of more is more.

  2. Intense colours like Fuchsia, Blue, (Cobalt and other shades) Purple (Very Peri), Green (many shades from lime to emerald green), Yellow, Orange and Brown are seen on all the catwalks and the streets. The bright colours are sure to give any gloomy post-Corona mood a kickstart.

3. Fair Isle- patterned cardigans and sweaters are making a huge comeback and crocheted items are still around. Extra-long sleeves that cover the hands are seen on some chunky knit jerseys.

4. Knitted dresses and sweater vests for layering.

5. Oversized blazers and brightly coloured coats and puffer jackets.

6. Wider pant legs on jeans and pants.

7. Miniskirts, worn with patterned tights.

8. Sheer dresses, worn with a cosy sweater or jacket.

ACCESSORY TRENDS

1. Headscarves (Kerchiefs) are worn in different styles. (The “doek” is back!)

2. Long necklaces and chokers are making a comeback.

3. Chunky chain necklaces. Chains are seen everywhere: on bags, shoes and worn on the body.

4. Pearls, bold and beautiful in all lengths and sizes.

5. Chunky rings and earrings, some with big colourful stones. Sometimes only one statement earring is worn.

6. Plastic jewellery and colourful beads.

7. Huge tote bags, “pillow” bags, bags with logos and bags in bright colours.

8. Oversized sunglasses.

9. Chunky, colourful shoes; platforms and flatforms; square, pointy toes; knee high boots and clogs are making a comeback.

10. Fashionable masks to match your outfit.

Most of these trends will surely be worn only by the most daring among us, but we can all find inspiration to freshen up our wardrobes. The one thing I like about trends is that when a colour you like is on-trend, there should be a wide variety of items available to choose from.

Seeing that “chunky” is a general theme, especially in accessories, one chunky piece per outfit should be fine or you do not have to go quite so chunky.

As you can see in the pictures, the pearl trend is not just your classic string of pearls and like the chunky chains and statement earrings, most pieces will be available as costume jewellery.

If you do not see a single trend that interest you, just marvel at the outrageous looks and how it will be interpreted in street style.

Have fun with fashion.

Till we chat again.
